Dorian Thompson-Robinson injury update

The Cleveland Browns undoubtedly had no idea that their season would depend on quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s performance when they selected him as their fifth-round choice in the 2023 NFL Draft. But with Deshaun Watson’s season-ending shoulder injury, that is the Browns’ reality.

Unexpectedly, Thompson-Robinson was inserted into the starting lineup for their Week 11 divisional matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The rookie quarterback for the Browns was not contained, as he attempted 43 passes.

Despite throwing one interception and finishing 24 for 165 passing yards, he was able to lead his side to a 13-10 victory.

However, Thompson-Robinson was unable to duplicate his heroics in Week 12, as the Browns fell to the Denver Broncos 29–12. But it wasn’t the worst Cleveland had to deal with.

How happened to Dorian Thompson-Robinson?

Following a severe blow, Dorian Thompson-Robinson is given medical care.

In the third quarter of the Browns vs. Broncos game, Thompson-Robinson attempted to locate a teammate downfield by rolling to his right on a third-down play.

But as soon as the ball left his hand, Broncos linebacker Baron Browning gave the rookie quarterback a huge shot to the jaw, causing him to fall to the ground.

Browning was penalized for roughing the passer, but Thompson-Robinson remained on the ground and required medical care. Substitute quarterback P.J. Walker took over when the quarterback left the game. Following an evaluation in the blue medical tent, Thompson-Robinson was ultimately declared ineligible due to a concussion.

Update on Dorian Thompson-Robinson’s Injuries

The NFL has Thompson-Robinson in its concussion protocol. Based on current sources, it seems doubtful that he will be cleared to play at home against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 13.

Walker, who began the season behind Watson as the second-choice quarterback, will assume the starting role in Thompson-Robinson’s absence. Joe Flacco, a free agency signing, will be the team’s backup quarterback when they play the Rams.

When can we expect Dorian Thompson-Robinson back?

Thompson-Robinson should be able to play in the Browns’ Week 14 home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and Trevor Lawrence if all goes according to plan.

Before playing the Jaguars, Cleveland will be hoping that the rookie quarterback passes the concussion protocol. The Browns would also appreciate Walker’s ability to play through injury to the Rams since it would alleviate their terrible quarterback position.
