Russian Prisoner Viktor Bout’s Message to Brittney Griner in Prisoner Swap

The U.S. government made a surprising move when they swapped Viktor Bout, a criminal involved in arms trading, for Brittney Griner, a famous WNBA player, in a trade with Russia. This decision has stirred up a lot of opinions.
In an interview with T.J. Quinn, a reporter from ESPN, Viktor Bout talked about his time in jail in the U.S. and shared what he told Brittney Griner when they swapped places at the airport in Abu Dhabi.
“So, I said, you know, ‘I wish you good luck,’ and, you know, and we both went to our, you know, planes,” Bout said.

Viktor Bout was put in jail for 25 years because he was found guilty of four serious crimes, including plotting to harm Americans. This happened in 2011. Back in 2008, he got caught in Thailand when American agents pretended to be rebels from Colombia and tried to buy weapons worth millions of dollars from him.
But the swap raised a big question – why didn’t the U.S. use this opportunity to free Paul Whelan, a former Marine who’s also imprisoned in Russia?
Now, here’s an interesting twist: Viktor Bout is running for a political position in Russia.
On the other side, Brittney Griner is back in the WNBA, playing basketball again. She’s also promised to support Paul Whelan and other Americans who are stuck in foreign jails.
