NASCAR Suspends Two Pit Crew Members for Loose Wheels at Texas Motor Speedway

NASCAR has taken action against two pit crews following incidents of loose wheels during the Autotrader EchoPark 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. This shows NASCAR’s commitment to safety and fairness in racing.

Here are the teams facing penalties:

  • No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevy:
    • Josh Sobecki (jack)
    • Michael Johnson (rear-tire changer)
  • No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Ford:
    • Matthew Schlytter (jack)
    • Coleman Dollarhide (rear-tire changer)

NASCAR’s rulebook, specifically Section 8.8.10.4.C, addresses the issue of “loss or separation of an improperly installed tire/wheel from the vehicle during the event” as a suspendable infraction.

As a result, each pit crew member involved in the wheel incidents will serve a two-race suspension. This is a change from NASCAR’s previous practice of penalizing the team’s crew chief before the rule change in 2023.

While these suspensions will affect the teams, the NASCAR Cup Series continues with the YellaWood 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, airing on NBC this Sunday. After that, fans can look forward to the Bank of America Roval 400, the South Point 400, the Cup Series Race at Homestead, the Xfinity 500, and the Cup Series Champion will be determined on November 5th in Phoenix.

Stay tuned for more exciting NASCAR action as the season progresses.
