Asia Cricket Cup, the only continental championship for cricket is set to start on 27 August 2022. The match format of the Asia Cup alternate between T20Is and ODIs every year and this time Countries will be playing this tournament in T20 format. In the first match of the Asia  Cup 2022, Sri Lanka will face Afghanistan in Dubai. The host of the 2022 Asia Cup was Sri Lanka, but economical unrest in the country has caused United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The most successful team in the Asia  Cup, India, will be defending their champion title after winning the 2018 edition. India also won the first T20I format of the Asia cup in 2016. India will be taking on Pakistan for the first time after Pakistan’s ten-wicket win last year at the T20  cup. Competition between these two rival nations will be exciting to watch. Sanath Jayasuriya

Matara hurricane, Sanath Jayasuriya has scored 1220 runs which is the most number of runs scored by an individual in the Asia Cup. He has faced 1190 balls with an impressive average of 53.04 in 25 matches he played as a Sri Lankan cricketer. Jayasuriya is the third cricketer after Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar to smash an ODI century on their birthday. He achieved this feat in 2008 against Bangladesh on his 39th birthday. Sanath Jayasuriya has achieved various records in cricket that are still standing for others to surpass them.

Kumar Sangakkara

Former wicket-keeper and batsman of Sri Lankan cricket team Kumar Sangakkara have scored 1075 runs in Asia Cup. He is the Second batsman with the highest run to play in Asia Cricket Cup. He has played a total of 24 matches with a remarkable average of 48.86 after facing 1272 balls. Kumar Sangakkara is one of the best wicket-keepers in the history of cricket and holds various records in both batting and wicket-keeping. 

Sachin Tendulkar

God of Indian cricket, Sachin Tendulkar is the third cricketer with the most runs in Asia Cup. This swashbuckling batsman has amassed 971 runs while facing 1136 balls with a commendable average of 51.10. Cricket is a genius when it came to cricket, playing for India from 1989 to 2013 there are a lot of achievements of Sachin that players even today can’t hope to break. Sachin has been awarded the highest civilian award ‘ Bharat Ratna’ for his achievement in cricket.

Shoaib Malik

Shoiab Malik, the Pakistan cricketer, has scored 907 runs in Asia Cricket Cup with a commendable average of 64.78. Shoaib captained the Pakistan cricket team from 2007 to 2009. He made his One Day debut in 1999 against West Indies and achieve a lot of success in cricket. Malik is the first cricketer to play 100 T20I matches and the first Asian to score 2000 runs in T20I. Shoaib Malik plays in the middle order for the Pakistan cricket team. PCB also banned Shoiab Malik from cricket for 1 year in march 2010, however, this ban was lifted after 2 months.

Rohit Sharma

Indian cricket team opener, Rohit Sharma is the fifth cricketer with the most runs in Asia Cup. he has scored 883 runs in 981 deliveries with an average of 42.04. Rohit Sharma is the current captain of the Indian Cricket team. Rohit Sharma has various records in cricket and one of them is for the highest individual runs in the One Day International match. He is also the only cricketer to score three Double-century in the ODI format. Rohit Sharma has various honors for his accomplishment in cricket.

Virat Kohli

Indian Cricket Team’s Ex captain, Virat Kohli has scored 766 runs in Asia Cup while facing 769 balls with a remarkable average of 63.83. Virat Kohli is recognized as one of the best cricketers of his era. Virat reach the top ICC ranking first time in 2013 and also won Man of the Tournament twice in ICC World Twenty 20. He is one of the most successful captains of the Indian cricket team. He has broken various records in cricket and many of them are hard to surpass by other cricketers.

Arjuna Ranatunga

Sri Lankan cricketer, Arjuna Ranatunga was the captain of the Cricket World Cup winning team in 1996. He is regarded as the reason behind the success of the Sri Lankan Cricket team. He accumulated a total of 741 runs in 895 deliveries with a good average of 57. Ranatunga join politics after his retirement from cricket and worked in various posts of administration in Sri Lanka. Arjuna was also the president of Sri Lanka cricket till December 2008.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the most successful test captain of Bangladesh. Mushfiqur can bat at an order from 1 to 6 due to his versatility when playing cricket. He is the first and only wicket-keeper to score a double century in Test cricket. Mushfiqur Rahim has scored 739 runs in 881 balls with an average of 32.13 in the Asia Cup. Rahim is one of the best players on Bangladesh’s cricket team.

MS Dhoni

Mahela is the first cricketer in the history of Sri Lanka to achieve more than 10,000 test runs and the second cricketer to score more than 10,000 runs in ODI matches. He currently serves as the chairman of the Sri Lanka National Sports Council.
