Wagner, a beloved figure in college football history, led the Rainbow Warriors from 1987 to 1995, leaving an indelible mark on the program with 58 wins and a historic top-20 finish.

During his time as coach, Wagner guided the team to a memorable victory in the Holiday Bowl in 1992, capping off an impressive 11-2 season. His contributions to the sport and the university are cherished by fans, alumni, and players alike.

Hawaii Football shared the sad news on social media, saying, “We are heartbroken to share that former head coach Bob “Wags” Wagner has passed away after battling recent health challenges.” 

In response to this sad news, an outpouring of condolences and well wishes for the Wagner family has flooded social media platforms.

One passionate fan expressed, “Coach Wags represents one of the greatest times in Hawaii football history. Even better than that, he was a good guy and loved this place. So sad to hear of his passing. He’ll be remembered forever.”

Another fan reflected on Wagner’s positive impact, saying, “I never got to know Bob as a coach, but I did know him during his time at KS-Hawaii. Good man. He knew how to make the people around him better. Condolences to the Wagner family.”
