Josh Allen reflects on the situation of the Bills locker room following Damar Hamlin’s return

Josh Allen and the rest of the country waited for word on Damar Hamlin after he collapsed on Monday Night Football with a horrible sensation. As the one-year anniversary of the tragic occurrence approaches, the quarterback discussed what happened on Tom Brady’s Let’s Go podcast and what Hamlin has done since.

He also seemed to imply that the injury had an impact on the team’s focus heading into the playoffs:

19:39 mark: “Seeing all that happened on the field last year was not our favourite moment as a team, but the weeks after that and getting positive updates on Damar obviously helped our team and our mentality a lot.” “I believe it weighed heavily on us for the rest of the season.”

He went on to say that the injury still bothers them about a year later. He did, however, express pleasure in Hamlin’s ability to recover and return to the football field. He was especially amazed by how well safety has been able to promote awareness after his full recovery:

“It’s on our minds all the time, but for him to come back and actually make the squad and be an inspiration to us and so many people around the world is incredible.” He has done a lot of good. [Not just here, but] around the country in terms of increasing awareness about CPR, generating funds, and providing AEDs to schools and Little League teams.”

Finally, he stated that Hamlin’s injuries and subsequent humanitarian action may save lives:

“I think that’s so freakin cool that he’s been able to turn such a tragic moment in his life into such a positive movement that could very well end up saving people’s lives.”

Has Damar Hamlin appeared this season?

One of the most anticipated moments of the Buffalo Bills preseason was the return of the safety. But, as the 2023 season nears its midway point, has security returned to the field?

In a nutshell, Damar Hamlin has returned to the field this year. He has, however, only appeared in one game. He’s been on the roster bubble this year, getting activated in only one instance.

Damar Hamlin’s use has dropped in comparison to last year and his debut season. He appeared in 14 games during his first season. Prior to the unfortunate event at the end of the season in 2022, he had appeared in 15 games and started 13 of them. He has only appeared in one game this season and has not created any of them.

Hamlin is placed third on the team’s depth chart, behind Micah Hyde and Cam Lewis.

It begs the question of whether the safety injury from last season is still hampering him. Allen stated that he still thinks about the damage, leading to conjecture that despite being medically cleared, Hamlin hasn’t been utilized much due to concern for his safety.

Will Damar Hamlin be able to participate in the next Week 9 game against Joe Burrow and the same squad he faced when he was injured?
