Sourav Ganguly is one of the most valued captains in India ever had. Starting his career as the opener for the team, Saurav Ganguly became the trump card of the Indian team.   • Being born to businessman Chandidas and housewife Nirupa Ganguly on 8 July 1972, Sourav Chandidas Ganguly had a very luxurious childhood. For his practice, his father set up a gym and a practice turf in-house.
  • Ganguly got various nicknames like his parent used to call him “Maharaja” while his teammates use to call him “Dada”. While  Sir Geoffrey Boycott got impressed by his batting and gave him the nickname “ The Prince of Calcutta”. 
  • Ganguly began batting as a left-hander to use his elder brother Snehasish’s equipment however he bowls, writes, and does all the other with his right hand.
  • Replacing his elder brother, Snehasish Ganguly who was axed from the side, Sourav made his first-class debut in 1989 for Bengal.
  • In 1992, Dada played against the West Indies in his maiden ODI match and only scored 3 runs. He was immediately fired from the national team after the administration accused him of misconduct and failing to provide refreshments for players in the stadium. The southpaw continues to dispute it, though.
  • In 1996, against England, at Lord’s, Ganguly had the biggest debut of his Test career, blasting 131 off 301 balls.
  • For India, the Prince of Calcutta was fortunate. In test cricket, India never lost a game when Ganguly hit a hundred. In 113 tests, he has completed 7212 runs, a remarkable average of 42.13.
  • The only player in history to win four straight ODI honors was Sourav Ganguly, who did it in 1997.
