India and South Africa board has decided to postpone T20s for a later date and now India will tour South Africa only to play 3 ODIs and 3 ODIs. However, it is still uncertain when tests and ODI will be conducted after they were delayed by a few days.

South Africa is grappling with the newly found variant of the Corona Virus. This Virus is considered to be the most fatal variant of the Coronavirus.  Most of the countries have banned travel from South Africa. Given the findings of this variant, it was reported that India’s tour of South Africa might be canceled and postponed to some later date.

India was to play 3 ODIs, 3 Tests, and 4 T20s against South Africa earlier. Now only tests and ODI will be played. T20 will be played at a later date.

In this regard, Jay Shah told news agency ANI:

“BCCI has confirmed CSA that the Indian team will travel for three Tests and three ODIs. The remaining four T20Is will be played at a later date.”

There were reports earlier that BCCI and South Africa Cricket Board were considering dropping one test. At last, they did not do it and instead decided to drop the T20 is something which is an interesting call. As they gave more importance to the longer format of Cricket this time.

It is relevant to note that postponement of the T20 that has taken place in the World Cup year is something that makes it more luring. However, they want to show the commitment towards the longer format of Cricket can also be the reason for dropping T20 and Tests match is also important from the perspective of World Test Championship.

It will now also be interesting to see how the two boards reschedule the T20I series, given how both teams have packed schedules leading to the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia in October and November
