Brad Hogg was quite impressed with the way KKR retained their players. Former Australian spinner Brad Hogg was reacting to the IPL retentions that were done on Tuesday. He was the most vocal about the KKR retention. KKR announced their retention in which they went ahead with Andre Russell, Varun Chakravarthy, Venkatesh Iyer, and Sunil Narine ahead of the mega auction.Β

All the eight franchises were given the deadline to announce their retained players by 30 November and all of them have announced their retention. There have been many surprises in the way players have been retained and released. Many of the franchises let go of their major players in the auction and retained new faces in their teams.

Brad Hogg observed that Andre Russell was picked by the KKR as their first choice, fetching the highest amount. However, he felt that Russel should not have been the first choice of the KKR given his performance in the last leg of the IPL. However, KKR must have seen the potential in him that enabled them to retain him for the highest amount.

Brad Hogg was of the view that Varun Chakravarthy was worth more than what he got. He was retained for 8 cr in the IPL. however, Brad Hogg believed that he should have fetched more money than what he got. Speaking on his youtube channel:

“I was very surprised with KKR. Given Chakravarthy only 8 Cr, I thought he was more than that. Big call to retain Iyer, he has not been with the team that long and has only played a handful of matches.”

“I think they could have put Russell back in the auction because he is such a big hit and miss. Yes, he will win you some games but the consistency does not warrant that price.”

KKR has the 48 cr in their purse for the mega auction. They have managed to part ways with the Shubam gill and Captian Eoin Morgan. This was quite surprising for the KKR to let go of these two. However, they can retain their players back in the auction, but they lack the right to match cards. Their announcement was contrary to the speculation made in the media. KKR have managed to retain their four players. It will be interesting to see them bidding for players that will fill the rest of the slots.

Brad Hogg was surprised over the other fact that this time, franchise reposed the faith in the youth. He was quite praiseworthy for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals who released their star performers while emptying their purse for the uncapped players.Β

Brad Hogg was all praiseful for the Umran Malik who took the cricketing world by storm by his performance in the bowling. He said:

“I’m impressed in Rajasthan Royals investing in Jaiswal, I think it is great to have an uncapped player as retention. With Sunrisers Hyderabad, they have Abdul Samad and Umran Malik, a very good decision to retain two uncapped players. Good to see franchises investing in the youth. Malik would have fetched a lot at the auction because of his extra pace.”

Both the Royal challengers Bangalore and Sun risers Hyderabad have released some of their star players such as the likes of Rashid Khan, Jofra Archer, Ben stokes. They will be up for bidding in the auction and new franchises will definitely be eying them.
