Hardik Pandya is not in consideration for the tour of South Africa

Hardik Pandya will not be considered for the South Africa tour due to his fitness. Before Inducting him, the Team selection committee will require him to undergo a fitness test to be able to make entry to the Indian team. He has been asked to report to CSA once he feels that he is fit to play for the Indian team.

Hardik Pandya has been grappling with Injuries for a very long time. His persistent injury makes him unfit to a bowl and he has not bowled for a very long time. Now was he given chance to bowl in any of the series he participated in?

Hardik Panday was not part of the recently concluded series against New Zealand. When it comes to tests cricket, Hardik Pandya has been unable to feature in the test since 2018 when he last time featured in the test against England.

However, he was part of the T20 World Cup, but he did not make much of an impact in the T20 world cup despite returning to the bowling. Recently BCCI made a statement about Hardik Pandya that he will be brought back into the team only when he fully recovers at the NCA:

“His recovery from injury will mainly depend on rest. He should be visiting the NCA soon and we will take a call on his inclusion in South Africa tour depending on his fitness.”

Currently, India is going through a phase where it needs a fast-bowling all-rounder as a sixth option as India already have five bowling position filled. India also experimented with the Ventetash Iyer in the T20 World Cup but his presence could not compensate for what India needed. This is the reason, Hardik Pandya is being considered as a serious option given his role and lack of other credible options.

Hardik Pandya has lost his position as a bowler in many of the series due to his persistent injuries. He was not seen bowling in the last two seasons of the IPL. The last time he bowled was in the series against England’s tour of India and India’s tour of New Zealand. The BCCI official also added that:

“At this moment, he is no way near the required fitness level for Test cricket. He needs time and we don’t want to rush things like was the case before the World Cup. If he is ready, he will be sent for the ODI and T20 series.”

To get entry into Team India, One is required to complete the full nine yards i.e to play solid domestic cricket and then come back to the Indian Cricket Team. Team management sees Pandya as one of the best all-rounder options. They are eager to induct him into the Indian Team. They are trying their best to make him eligible to get the fitness.

The option to play in the upcoming Vijay Hazare trophy is solely up to Pandya, claims the source. The BCCI official stated:

“Playing in Vijay Hazare will be up to his fitness. We have important series coming up and it is better for him to be fit than playing in Hazare. But that is a call that needs to be taken after he is fully fit. At the moment, he is not. If he wants to play, it will be up to him.”

Team India will tour South Africa for a full-fledged tour starting from December 17. The schedule comprises of 3 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 4 T20s which will conclude on January 26.
