Dimitrious Stanley dies of cancer at 48
It was on Thursday when Mike Picetti announced the death of his former student Dimitrious Stanley, a former Ohio State player. The former wide receiver for the Buckeyes was battling with prostate cancer.
Stanley spent four seasons with Ohio State and became the leading receiver in 1996. That season, Stanley caught 43 passes for 829 yards along with 8 touchdowns.
How did Dee Miller react to his friend passing away?
Dee Miller, who partnered with Stanley back in the day was also one of his best friends. He expressed his heartbreak following the illness which led to Stanley’s death.
Miller said: “It was remarkable to see how he handled things after being diagnosed, the way he fought, and the way he still tried to live his life and be around for his family. Selfishly, we’re all going to miss him physically, but we didn’t want him to continue to suffer the way he was.”
Highlights of Stanley’s Career
Over the course of his career, Stanley received 63 passes for 1,136 yards and registered 13 touchdowns. His final game was arguably the most notable game of his career.
He was a key player for Buckeyes during the iconic Rose Bowl victory over Arizona. The wide receiver helped his side to lift the title after 23 years.
During the game, Stanley caught a 72-yard touchdown in the third quarter as Joe Germaine helped provided the pass in a 20-17 win against Sun Devils. Later in the fourth quarter, Stanley caught two amazing third-down passes that kept Ohio’s winning run alive.
Post his college year, Dimitrious Stanley plied his trade playing professional football in the Canadian Football League. This included a brief stint in the Arena Football League.
