AFC Championship To Be Played In Atlanta

The AFC championship game, which is between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs, will be played in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, which will host the Super Bowl in 2018.

“Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta would host a potential AFC Championship Game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, January 29, at 6:30 p.m. ET,”  the NFL announced.

With the cancellation of the Buffalo Bill and the Cincinnati Bengals’ game because of Hamlin’s cardiac arrest. The NFL decided not to resume the game. The Kansas City Chiefs were in first place in the game. It won its final game with a record of 14-3. With this, Kansas became the top seed in the conference. It lost to the Buffalo Bills and Cincinnati Bengals during the regular season. Even though the Bengals won in Week 18, the Bills and the Chiefs were winning and became the number one seed.

Why Mercedes-Benz Stadium?

Mercedes-Benz Stadium was opened in 2017, and the Super Bowl 2018 season was hosted there.

It is best to play the AFC championship there since it is equidistant from Buffalo and the Chiefs (Buffalo is about 900 miles and Kansas City is about 800 miles from Atlanta).

Lucas Oil Stadium was another great venue for the championship, but it is already occupied with the National Volleyball Tournament that weekend.

The AFC championship game between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs will take place in Atlanta, a neutral site for both teams. The game will be played on Sunday, January 29, at 6:30 p.m.
