After team India’s early exit from the T20 World Cup 2021, India made their comeback and clean sweep their then rivals-New Zealand the same team which made the Indian squad disqualified from the short format big tournament.

Everyone in the team under Rohit’s captaincy and Dravid’s guidance has played up to their full potential and brought the Trophy for their gameplay. Venkatesh Iyer, the debutant of the T20I series against the Kiwis has not stopped appreciating the way Rohit, Dravid and other players have treated him on the field since the practice match days to the till date.

Venkatesh Iyer played his first T20I on 17th Nov. where he got dismissed early by hitting the boundary. Iyer has revealed the role of Captain-Rohit Sharma and his influence on Iyer’s performance. He told to TOI:

“During the victory and trophy celebration, Rohit bhai came and gave the trophy to me and said well done. Holding the winning trophy was an emotional and proud moment for me. I got a lot of support from my seniors, my captain Rohit bhai and coach Rahul sir. It was a special feeling for me when my captain Rohit bhai gave me the trophy and gave a lot of credit to me. He said you have done a good job, keep it up.”

During the session with TOI, Iyer was asked where would he like to play in the team because despite team India’s win in the T20I there have been unanswered questions till now related to the medium order.

“Whatever challenge comes my way, I will accept it. As a cricketer, I should be ready for everything. If my captain asks me to bowl, I will bowl as many overs as needed and pick wickets. If my captain asks me to bat, I will go to the middle and score as many runs for my team as possible.”

Indian openers KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, and Rohit Sharma have been in the top-order while Iyer has been batting on the No. 6th despite opening the match for KKR, he has not been given any chance to open till yet.

India will be playing its 1st Test match against NZ on Nov.25th in Kanpur at 9:30 am (IST).
