Indian premier league saw its first game played in 2008. Today, it has become the most expensive league in the world. IPL has made the shorter format more popular among the cricket fraternity.

IPL is a short format game which pushes players to give what they have got under the most extraordinary pressure situations. It brings the best out of them. In IPL, Either players create history or vanish into thin air.  

In this article, we will present the top 5 players who have the highest averages in the history of IPL.

1.K L Rahul

Kl Rahul made his debut in the IPL in 2013. Rahul had not much of an opportunity to prove his worth as he only got to play 5 matches. He had an average of  10. With the more opportunity and more freedom to play shots, he came to be the top batsman with the highest averages in the IPL history. His average was 44.86.

Rahul is someone who is known for his technique and application of various lengths and hitting some outstanding shots. 

He got his revelations in 2018 when he notched up 650 runs with six half-centuries. He led the Sunrisers chart with the highest run scorer.  

He finally broke the ice of 100 runs mark after being bowled out close before hitting the century. 

2. Hashm Amla

Hashim Amla is probably the calmest player on the field in the world. He was known for his test cricket skills. But he put those critics to bed when he scored a ton in IPL.

He became part of IPL in 2016 in which he was a destructive player. Although he got a chance to play only in six matches, yet he scored 157 runs with an average of 26. 

Come IPL edition 2017 where he eventually proved that he can also play the shortest format with great ease. He played a total of 10 matches where he scored 577 runs with the average of 60. He hit two centuries against giant Mumbai indians and Gujarat lions. 

Today, Amla has the second highest average of 44.38 after KL Rahul. Amla had the brief stint of two years till 2017 after which he went unsold. 

3. Iqbal Abdulla

Iqbal abdulla who is a left arm spinner but can also swing his bat in the middle order. He played in state cricket but was unknown at the national level. He came into limelight when he claimed 16 wickets for Kolkata knight riders and secured the under-13 player of the tournament award in 2011 IPL season. 

Though he is more of a bowler but he managed to have the highest batting average with 44 despite playing too less.

He played six seasons for the Kolkata knight riders collecting the 33 wickets at the 25.48 before moving to the Rajasthan royals, he only played one match and then moved to Royal challengers bangalore in 2015, was brought back by the same KKR In 2016.

After 2017, he went unsold. 

4. David Warner

David Warner is probably counted among the batsmen who are the masters of all three formats. Once David warner assumes his form, there is nothing stopping him. He has shown the ability to beat any top bowler in the world. He can single handedly change the fortune of any game. 

This australian-born batsman has been associated with the Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers hyderabad.  Under his captaincy, Sunrisers has won IPL trophy in 2016, and reached the playoff every time since 2016. 

In IPL, he is the batsman with highest averages of 42.71 in 142 matches. 

5. Jonny Bairstow

Johnny Bairstow has a knack for wicket-keeping and batting. He has been a star performer of the English middle order. He has some of the best records to his names. 

He made his debut in 2019 in the SunRisers Hyderabad team. He was bought for 1.5 crores. Bairstow scored a total of 445 runs in 10 matches at the strike rate of 126.83. He also hit the one century and 2 two fifties. 

Though he played only in the two IPL seasons, yet he holds the record among five top batsmen with highest average of 41.57.
