The Raya Lucaria Academy, located in the Liurnia region of Elden Ring, is an important dungeon you’ll need to access. However, you can’t just walk right in; first, you must unlock the South Raya Lucaria Gate using the Academy Glintstone Key. This guide will show you how to find that key with ease.
Elden Ring is full of mysteries, with some being more challenging than others. Luckily, figuring out how to open the Raya Lucaria Academy gate isn’t too difficult. In fact, you can find a map right next to the South Raya Lucaria Gate that leads directly to the Glintstone Key. Just be prepared to face a Glintstone Dragon along the way.
How to Get the Glintstone Key for South Raya Lucaria Gate?
To find the Glintstone Key, head to the sealed entrance closest to the Academy Gate Town. After passing Flame Chariots and Raya Lucaria Soldiers, you’ll see a ramp leading to a Grace and the sealed entrance. Approach it and look for a body nearby, where you’ll find the Meeting Place Map, showing the Glintstone Key’s location.
Check the map in your inventory’s Information tab, and you’ll see the location of the meeting place. Be cautious, as you’ll come across a sleeping dragon upon arrival.
Smarag, the Guardian of the Glintstone Key
Start from a nearby Grace (Temple Quarter, Rose Church, Academy Gate Town, or Boilprawn Shack) and head north to the west side of Raya Lucaria Academy. Before reaching the Academy Crystal Cave, you’ll see Smarag, the Glintstone Dragon, sleeping. It’ll wake up if you get too close.
Find several corpses near the dragon’s tail, and the one leaning against a large rock formation will have the Academy Glintstone Key, glowing purple. To avoid waking Smarag, ride Torrent around the rock formation, hop off, sneak behind the formation, and jump to land on the body with the key.
Opening the Raya Lucaria Gate
Once you have the Glintstone Key, return to the Site of Grace near the South Raya Lucaria Gate. Approach the gate, wait for a unique input to show up, and press Y or Triangle to pass through the seal.
On the other side of the gate, you’ll find another Site of Grace, a path leading northeast, and an elevator to the southwest. The northeast path takes you to another seal, teleporting you to the northeastern part of Liurnia. The elevator, however, leads to the Raya Lucaria Academy, where teachers may be more focused on fighting than teaching.

Clues To Get Glintstone Key in Elden Ring
A Sorcerer named Thops, found in the Church of Irith on the northern path from Stormveil Castle, provides the first clue about the Glintstone Key in Elden Ring. Speak with Thops, and he’ll mention needing the key to bypass the Academy’s barrier. He also requests you bring one back for him if possible.
As you head toward the Academy, passing through Academy Gate Town, you’ll arrive at one of the Academy Gates. A nearby fallen Sorcerer holds a map pointing to a meeting spot, hinting they were searching for a Glintstone Key. The map shows a small island to the west of the gate in the marsh.

The Dragon’s Treasure: Get Glintstone Key in Elden Ring
Follow the map to the island, located south of the Four Belfries Site of Grace. Here, you’ll face another challenge: the Glintstone Dragon Smarag sleeps near the key. To avoid a tough boss battle and get the Glintstone Key in Elden Ring, crouch and sneak past the dragon.
Don’t worry if Smarag wakes up; it will move south for a short distance before returning to its original position. This gives you time to grab the Glintstone Key in Elden Ring and other treasures before making a quick escape.
If you decide to fight Smarag, be prepared for a long and difficult battle. The dragon moves fast and uses powerful claws and magical breath attacks.
Back to Raya Lucaria Academy with the Glintstone Key in Elden Ring
With the Glintstone Key in hand, you can now access Raya Lucaria Academy. Unfortunately, Thops still needs a key. To get a second Glintstone Key in Elden Ring for Thops, reach the Academy Rooftops from the courtyard and find the Church of Cuckoo’s Ceiling. Carefully land on a chandelier inside to discover the extra key.
Sadly, Thops will be found lifeless near the Schoolhouse Classroom Site of Grace. However, you can now obtain the Academy Glintstone Staff and Thops Bell Bearing, which unlocks all items Thops once sold at the Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold.
