Rudy Gobert vows to hold Alex Caruso 'accountable' if NBA doesn't

Gobert says the Bulls guard intentionally went at his knees at the end of the first half.

Minnesota Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert appears to believe that Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso intentionally ran into his knee while boxing out for a rebound during Sunday’s game in Minneapolis, which saw a massive fans’ engagement in Nebraska sports betting.

The play in question happened as the final seconds ticked off the clock in the second quarter. Monte Morris’s shot at the buzzer went up and Alex Caruso went under Gobert to box him out, and when backing into him he appeared to jar Gobert’s right knee.

“Did Caruso go at your legs there at the end of the first half?” asked Timberwolves insider Jon Krawczynski. Gobert’s response: “Yeah.”

“I had a knee injury a couple years ago on the same play and missed a month because someone ran into my knee. I hope they look at this, because if they don’t hold people accountable, I’m gonna hold them accountable myself,” Gobert said.

Caruso is known as one of the league’s elite defenders and doesn’t have a history of dirty play. Did he intentionally back into Gobert’s knee or is this just what can happen when a 6-foot-5 guy gets low in an effort to box out a 7-foot-1 monster?

Whatever the case is, the Timberwolves 109-101 loss to the Bulls dropped them from first to third in the Western Conference playoff race. Minnesota has eight games to go before the playoffs, including a back to back Tuesday-Wednesday against the Rockets and Raptors.
