KL Rahul Must Clear The Fitness Test At NCA Ahead Of Asia Cup 2022- Reports
KL Rahul was selected for India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022 on Monday. However, it appears that before the team takes off for the T20I tournament in the UAE, he must pass the fitness test. Before the Asia Cup 2022, the Indian Wicket-keeper Opening Batsman will undergo a fitness test at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. KL Rahul, who is already receiving treatment at NCA headquarters, has been requested to take the test after being selected for the 15-man Indian team for the upcoming competition, which will begin on August 27.
KL Rahul shared on his social media account regarding his recovery following surgery in June. He claimed to be on the mend, but he tested positive for Covid-19. Despite this, the management at NCA believes he is fully healthy and ready to play for India again after being sidelined due to unexpected injuries and a covid scare.
However, he must still show his fitness in front of the BCCI medical staff to be available for men in blue. The Indian Opener has yet to appear in a T20I for Team India in 2022. However, excellent news about his recovery was conveyed to Insidesport by a source in BCCI, who stated:
“KL Rahul is fully fit and that is the reason he is selected in the team. But as a protocol, he will undergo a fitness test in Bengaluru.”
He last appeared on the field during the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), after which he traveled to Germany to get a hernia operation. The star batter was consequently unable to participate in the England tour, and his return was postponed after he developed COVID-19 before the Caribbean tour.
Shreyas Iyer Will Take KL Rahul’s Place In The Squad If He Fails The Fitness Test
KL Rahul is hoping to be selected for India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia. KL Rahul is keen for a chance to play and put in a decent performance to cement his place in India’s World Cup squad. The Indian team management has previously tried several players for the opening position, with Suryakumar Yadav shining out. Rahul must play for India in both the Asia Cup and the upcoming home season before the World Cup.
The team management will include reserve player Shreyas Iyer in the Indian Squad for Asia Cup 2022 if KL Rahul fails the fitness test the following week. In addition to Shreyas Iyer, Deepak Chahar and Axar Patel have been picked as reserve players for the major event.
The Asia Cup will begin on August 27 and India will play their opening match against Pakistan on August 28 at Dubai International Stadium.
