Key All-Rounder Substituted in India’s Asia Cup Final Squad

India has made a last-minute change to their squad for the Asia Cup final, which is scheduled for September 17 against Sri Lanka.

Washington Sundar has been chosen to replace Axar Patel just before the Asia Cup Final in Colombo. Sundar has already arrived and joined the squad.

Axar Patel had suffered a left quadriceps strain during India’s last Super Four game against Bangladesh on September 15, which means he won’t be able to play in the crucial final match.

During the game against Bangladesh, Axar scored 42 runs from 34 balls, including three fours and two sixes. Despite facing multiple challenges, he fought hard to keep India in the game. However, Bangladesh’s bowlers performed exceptionally well, securing a six-run victory to conclude their Asia Cup campaign positively.

Sundar, who is replacing Axar, has taken 16 wickets in the same number of ODIs, with an average of 27.18 and an economy rate of close to five. He has also shown his batting skills, scoring 233 runs in nine innings, including a fifty against New Zealand.

Sundar is part of India’s Asian Games squad and is expected to join the Asian Games camp after the Asia Cup final.

India’s squad for the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka includes: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, KL Rahul (wicket-keeper), Ishan Kishan (wicket-keeper), Hardik Pandya (Vice-Captain), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar.

The final of the Asia Cup will feature the past two champions, India and Sri Lanka, in Colombo. Both teams enter the match with different recent forms – India suffered a loss to Bangladesh in the final over, while Sri Lanka achieved a thrilling last-over victory against Pakistan in a virtual semi-final.
