It has been reported that Vanderbilt has appointed former UConn star Katie Lou Samuelson as director of player development.

Samuelson is a star player in WNBA playing for the Los Angeles Sparks. Her role in this position is to help guide with recruiting and plan a strategy for Vanderbilt during the offseason.

What Did Vanderbilt Coach Shea Ralph Sa About Samuelson?

She is one of the hardest-working, most competitive players I have ever coached. She has excelled at every level in our sport, starting with championships in college and now making a name for herself in the WNBA and overseas as a standout professional.

“She has true life experience in ‘maximizing your potential,’ which is the goal and mission for every person associated with this program.”

Samuelson used to work as an assistant coach for Ralph. In 2016, she along with Ralph led the Huskies to the NCAA title. In 2017 and 2018, she won the American Athletic Conference player of the year. She also became the 10th player to record 2000 career points in the history of Connecticut.  Moreover, she stands fourth on the list of Huskies’ all-time scorers.

Samuelson has previously represented both Dallas and Seattle. She was the 4th pick in the draft during the 2019 WNBA season. Overseas, she won the Spanish championship with Perfumerias Avenida and reached the finals of the 2021 Euroleague.

As of now, Vanderbilt’s overall record stands at 9-11 and 0-6 in the Southeastern Conference.
