The NBA suspended Ja Morant, a basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies, for eight games without pay. This happened because Morant streamed a video of himself at a nightclub while holding a gun and intoxicated. Morant admitted that he made a mistake and deserves to be punished for his actions.

The NBA banned him for “conduct detrimental to the league,” and he has already missed six games while receiving counseling and therapy. While he is eligible to return to play on Monday when Memphis plays Dallas, he said he will need more time to physically prepare himself.

“When I get back out there, I’m going to be ready to go and ready to push for a (championship) ring,” Morant said.

The NBA investigated an incident that occurred on March 4 at a club in the Denver area involving Ja Morant. After conducting the investigation, the league held a meeting on Wednesday between Morant and NBA commissioner Adam Silver. As a result of the meeting and investigation, Morant received his punishment.

“Ja’s conduct was irresponsible, reckless and potentially very dangerous,” Silver said. “It also has serious consequences given his enormous following and influence, particularly among young fans who look up to him.

“He has expressed sincere contrition and remorse for his behavior. Ja has also made it clear to me that he has learned from this incident and that he understands his obligations and responsibility to the Memphis Grizzlies and the broader NBA community extend well beyond his play on the court.”

It’s important to note that Morant didn’t have the gun with him while he was traveling with the basketball team or at any NBA facility. Additionally, the authorities in Colorado didn’t have enough evidence to charge him with a crime related to the incident.

Ja Morant had a conversation with NBA commissioner Adam Silver, where they had an open discussion. During their conversation, Silver gave him some advice on how to improve himself, but also showed him his support. Morant apologized to the NBA, the Memphis Grizzlies, and his family for making a bad decision that affected them negatively. However, he did not mention who owned the gun involved in the incident or how he came to be holding it.

“I don’t condone it or any type of violence but I take full responsibility from my actions,” he said.

“I can see the image that I painted over myself with my recent mistakes. But in the future, I’m going to show everybody who Ja really is, what I’m about, and change this narrative.”
