IPL AUCTION 2022: IPL Franchises that decided their possible retentions

Ahead of the IPL Auction 2022 to be organized in late December or early January, the players of their respective teams are going to be changed.

The two new teams- “Ahmedabad” and “Lucknow” have been added in. The Franchises are expected to retain their 4 players before the deadline till 30th November and from the non-retained players, the two new teams will be signing 3 players each before 25th December.

Going first with the Indian Premier League’s Franchise Delhi Capitals, DC has decided to retain- Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw, Anrich Nortje, while, on the other hand, the Test debutant Shreyas Iyer has decided to put himself in the auctions.

Rishabh Pant was always the first choice of the franchise and after he; was Iyer but after Iyer opted out himself for auction, Shaw became the 2nd retainer followed by Patel and Nortje.

Shaw and Patel both were difficult decisions to be made by the franchise but after comparing them to their competitions Rabada and Dhawan resp. the selectors retained them. Rabada was a great competitor for Shaw as the former made it difficult for the latter to be Capital’s favorite.

But somehow after comparing their economic rates Anrich Nortje became Capital’s choice. While Shaw had his senior Shikhar Dhawan as the major competitor who joined DC again in 2019  after being left out by SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Shikhar Dhawan lost the game even after being IPL’s century-maker, when Axar Patel came in front as an “all-rounder” package for the team, he has picked 34 wickets from 41 games, with a commendable economy rate of 6.73. Patel also became one of the choices after his debut match in T20I against New Zealand where he claimed 3 wickets.

Apart from Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals also have announced their first retention- Sanju Samson. The batsman-wicketkeeper will not only play as Royals’ retainer but will also remain as their captain because of the way he played in the IPL 2021 season and brought them on the seventh place. He settled for INR 14 Crore and has been roped the 2nd time in a row.

Chennai Super kings (CSK) have also announced their 4 picks from their core team- MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, R Jadeja, and Moeen Ali.

MS Dhoni was no doubt to be the first choice of the Franchise, the 4-time winning team is needed to be under Dhoni’s guidance and experience for keeping the records set. Dhoni however didn’t want the Franchise to waste their money by retaining him but which team doesn’t want to retain the core player who has brought them this far.

Meanwhile, the 3rd Franchise in the row Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is going to retain the 2 WI players- Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, while the settlement with the opening duo of Venkatesh Iyer and Shubhman Gill and the spinner- Varun Chakravarthy is still going on.

Sources have also suggested that KL Rahul has agreed to lead the new Franchise- Lucknow. KL Rahul is likely to leave Punjab Kings and is going to show his batsmanship against everyone from the front and by leading his own team.

While Kings XI Punjab has not decided yet on whom to retain and whom to release.

Mumbai Indians (MI) have also decided to retain- Rohit Sharma, Kieron Pollard, Ishan Kishan. However, the Franchise has not confirmed its pack of retentions yet.

The IPL Auction 2022 is going to be organized in the last week of December 2021 or in the first week of January 2022. The official date is yet to be announced by BCCI.
