IPL 2021: I might try my hand at Bowling this IPL, says Shubham Gill

Shubham Gill is looking forward to bowling in the IPL as he feels that he has a knack for it. Gill even went on saying that he might become good at it. He has earlier tried his hand at bowling in the under-16 and under-19. He was quite impressive there. But, he was warned for his bowling actions.

He left bowling altogether after that. He concentrated his efforts on batting, earning the name for himself on that front.

Shubham Gill who is the crucial part of KKR, will be featuring as a bowler. He is an off-spinner bowler. KKR recently released the video where Shubham gill is seen bowling the orthodox spin.

He said in an interview when he was asked about his plans for bowling:

In U-16 and U-19, I used to bowl a lot, but I was warned for a suspect action in U-19, then I kind of stopped bowling. Let’s see, you never know I might pick it up and be determined to bowl. I think I should be able to do a pretty good job,”

Although he has not bowled in the international games so far. His bowling was restricted to only domestic matches only. But when it comes to bowling, he has been nothing but spectacular. He has a knock of 259 runs at the average of 51.8 in three games.

Later, back at home against England, he did not have much to show off. He had a total of 119 runs at an average of 19.83.

In IPL last year, he played a total of 14 matches where he scored a total of 440 runs.

Shubham Gill is often criticised for having the low strike rates in the IPL. He is more of considered the batsman of long format. However, Shubham Gill shrugged off his critics saying that strike rate is overrated, what is more important is to adapt to the different situations.

He said in this regard that:

“I think the strike rate is kind of overrated. It’s all about how you adapt to a certain situation. If the team demands you to play with a strike rate of 200, you should be able to do it. If the team demands you to play at a strike rate of 100, you should be able to do it. It’s just about adapting to the match situation. There shouldn’t be a certain pattern to your game, where you are only able to play one kind of game and not able to adapt to different situations,” said Shubman Gill.

IPL will start on 9 April. KKR will take on Sun Risers Hyderabad on April 10.
