IPL 2021: He won’t be surprised if the Devdutt plays for India, says Sunil Gavaskar

Devdutt Padikkal has recently gained so much admiration for his performance in a match against Rajasthan Royals where he played the knock of 101 off the 52 balls. He single handedly took RCB to victory. One of the foremost admirers was Sunil Gavaskar who was enchanted by him and went on saying that he will not be surprised if the Devdutt padikkal represents the Indian team. He had confidence in his abilities.

Devdutt paddikal has been the high scorer in the Indian domestic circuit. He has earned a name for himself for being the hard-hitter. Sunil Gavaskar said Devdutt possesses all the requisite abilities to play for India and to succeed at international level.

“Won’t be surprised if he (Devdutt Padikkal) plays for India in any of the formats because he has got the class and the ability to do that. He is a heavy scorer in first-class cricket and Ranji Trophy as well gets big hundreds. In 50-overs cricket, he gets lots of runs and hundreds. Here, in the T20 domestic tournaments, he got lots of runs. So, I won’t be surprised if he is there sooner rather than later,” Gavaskar said.

Before the start of the IPL, there was uncertainty over Devdutt as he was tested positive for the Coronavirus. But he recovered soon and managed to play this way.

In the IPL 2020, he was awarded with the Emerging player for his innings as he has managed to garner 473 runs in the 15 games at the average of the 31.5, smashing the five half centuries.

Sunil Gavaskar also praised the Karnataka cricket set-up and highlighted how it has produced brilliant players over the period of time.

“Karnataka has always produced a terrific line of batsmen. Gundappa Vishwanath, Rahul Dravid… then KL Rahul. And if KL Rahul, you know, some of the stars need to believe in themselves a little bit more. Sometimes you get the feeling that he doesn’t believe in himself. He is such a talented player And there is Mayank Agarwal, there is Karun Nair who got a triple hundred, he also needs to get his act together. It’s a terrific batting line-up Karnataka have. And Devdutt Padikkal is another one in that long line of batsmen who have delighted the Indian cricket lovers,” Gavaskar added.

This time, RCB has been at the top of the table winning all the four matches that they have played so far. They are among the favorites to secure the spot in the play offs.
