Anil Kumble not willing to coach India again, BCCI considers foreign options: Report

Reports are floating around that Anil Kumble is not interested in taking up the role of the Indian coach again. As the tenure of the Current BCCI coach Ravi Shastri is set to end after the T20 world cup. BCCI is looking for possible successors. The name of Anil Kumble came up to be the successor of Ravi Shastri. However, BCCI officials were not in favor of Anil Kumble becoming an Indian coach due to disagreement last time. Nor Anil Kumble was too keen to take up the mantle of the Indian team again as a head coach.

BCCI president Saurav Ganguli favored the appointment of Anil Kumble as the next coach of the Indian team. But if Anil Kumble is appointed the coach of the Indian team, he will have to deal with the same players with whom he had the disagreement previously.  It seems that they will have to look for options other than the Anil Kumble.

It is reported that the BCCI this time is looking for an option outside the country. And it might come up with the name of some foreign coach. India had not had a foreign player since the end of 2015 and Duncan Fletcher was the last foreign coach to coach India.

“Well, neither Anil Kumble wants to return, nor the BCCI officials, other than president Sourav Ganguly, are too interested in him. The Board is looking for a foreign coach now. Kumble knows that he will have to face the same old team members (Virat Kohli and others in the team), nothing new, then why would he return? And moreover, Dada (Ganguly) has recommended his name, but other officials expressed their disagreement on it,” a highly-placed source in the board told IANS.

Apart from the disagreement among the BCCI officials, Anil Kumble has not had that good record as the coach of India. He also did not have a good track record as the coach of the Punjab kings.

While the name of VVS Laxman was also doing rounds, he might be named as coach of India. However, this was also shrugged off by the BCCI.

“VVS Laxman also will not be able to get the post. However, there’s still a month left, so let’s see what comes or some change of mind! Also, look at Kumble’s record as a coach, it is not that impressive. See what is happening with Kings Punjab in IPL,” he added.

Ravi Shastri’s role as head coach of the Indian team is coming to an end after the T20 world cup and he has expressed his desire not to stay in the post any longer after that.
