Alex Morgan Is Not Happy With USWNT’s Performance In Opening Game At World Cup

Co-captain of the USWNT team Alex Morgan is not happy with the team’s performance in the opening game at the World Cup.

Alex, 34, said in an interview with ESPN that the US didn’t click in the opener game with Vietnam. However, the US team defeated Vietnam 3-0 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup opening game last Friday.

In Tuesday’s press conference, Morgan said,

“I think we saw a lot of glimpses of our potential, but I feel like we weren’t always clicking on the field. I feel like some of the plays that we had were a little forced or rushed. So I think it’s having a little more patience, switching a little bit more, having our movements be a little more synchronized. And so I think we’re looking to apply that for this next game and moving forward.”

Morgan and other players of the team watched the Netherlands match together to make a strategy against the upcoming match to pick up its second win in the Group Stage.

Alex analyzed the Netherlands’ formation and style of playing to improve their own performance in the next match. Alex Explained,

“We watched the Netherlands the other night, and they have a lot of the same players as we played them in the World Cup four years ago.”

She further continued, “A little bit [of a] different formation but still the same personnel, and that’s important for team chemistry. So just knowing that we know that we have to be at our best, and we’re doing everything we can at the training field, in the meetings, watching video, doing everything we can. But this is going to be a very big matchup.”

Alex Morgan and Lindsey Horan took the place of USWNT captain 2023 World Cup after Becky Sauerbrunn was sidelined due to injury.

The next match between USWNT and the Netherlands will be aired on ET at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
