A person who streams themselves playing the video game Overwatch 2 on Twitch was surprised when a professional basketball player named Luka Doncic joined their team unexpectedly. Doncic is open about playing Overwatch and enjoys playing as the characters Hanzo and Genji, which some people find concerning. However, during this particular match, Doncic was playing the character Zarya in a high-level game that the streamer M0xy was broadcasting live to a large audience on Twitch.

“You got any hobbies, Donatello?” he asks as they guard the first point on Numbani, referring to the Zarya player in question by his gamer tag. “Yeah I play basketball,” Donatello answers after hitting the emote that makes Zarya say “privyet.” “Okay, like you go to a gym or you play on a team?” the streamer asks.

Donatello gave a very simple answer in a calm, emotionless way with a distinct Slovenian accent that impressed the audience. He said, “Dallas Mavericks.” This answer surprised two players in the game, who asked if he meant the “varsity” team or the actual professional basketball team. Donatello clarified that he meant the real Dallas Mavericks. Later in the match, it appeared that his teammates were interrogating him about who he really was.  “When’s your birthday?” they ask. “28th of February,” he responds.

“Well, he actually knows…I Googled that, you’re actually right,” the streamer confirms. “I know, I’m him,” Doncic says.

The clip being referred to is so amazing because it is straightforward and uncomplicated, even though it stands out in the midst of all the bright colors and constant noises in Overwatch. It’s so impressive that the person speaking suggests it should be displayed in the Louvre Museum.

What makes this situation even better is that Luka Doncic is an exceptional Overwatch player who has achieved the highest possible rank before entering the global top 500. He is especially skilled in playing the tank role in the new 5v5 format. It’s a positive sign that he’s now focusing on tanking instead of his earlier preference for playing two of the most irritating DPS characters, Hanzo and Genji. This shows that he’s grown and matured in his approach to the game.
